BMW M cars truly have come a long way as far as power being easily extracted with minor tuning. There was a time where a bolt on BMW M3 topping a modified Corvette was unheard of. Well, the tables sure have flipped. It is the base Corvette now that needs serious mods to hang with a mildly tuned M3. This one has modified heads, an aftermarket intake, cat delete, and ethanol tune. The F80 M3 is running a JB4, downpipes, and meth. The Corvette does well but the M3 is simply too much for it. Time for a blower?

Let's not pretend the turbo engine era is about saving the planet and lowering emissions. The cars are getting so big and heavy that to improve performance they had to go to turbos. How else are you going to move an E-Class cabriolet that weighs as much as an E63 wagon? Seriously, the E43 cabriolet weighs 4602 pounds. That is roughly the same weight as an E63 AMG wagon. To put in other terms, it is 500 pounds heavier than the old and already heavy CLK63 AMG V8. To make matters worse, 54% of the weight is on the nose. Is Mercedes-AMG doing an Audi impression? No wonder it needs a turbo M256 3.0 I6 with electric assist to move it. Output is 429 horsepower with 384 lb-ft of torque. An electric motor provides 21 of those horses and 184 lb-ft of torque. Even with all that power and torque it only manages a 12.8 @ 107.5 in the 1/4 mile. That might sound decent but take into account the old 2007 CLK63 AMG would do low 12's at 117 miles per hour. That was done without turbos by the way. How is this progress when a naturally aspirated and lighter Mercedes CLK from over a decade ago crushes it in performance? Not to mention AMG has no real AMG model variant for the E-Class coupe despite them pretending the E53 is one. The M256 I6 is not an AMG motor folks. Maybe you're thinking the car is a value at least? Nope. The as tested price is over $100k with the starting price at over $80k. Sorry Mercedes. Not only does this car not deserve an AMG badge it's fat, overpriced, and it underforms. The BMW M4 convertible is quite simply a superior car in every respect. 2019 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Turbo 4Matic+ Cabriolet BASE PRICE $81,345 PRICE AS TESTED $101,215 (est) VEHICLE LAYOUT Front-engine, AWD, 4-pass, 2-door convertible ENGINE 3.0L/429-hp/384-lb-ft turbo DOHC 24-valve I-6 plus 21-hp/184-lb-ft electric motor; 429 hp/384 lb-ft combined TRANSMISSION 9-speed twin-clutch auto CURB WEIGHT (F/R DIST) 4,602 lb (54/46%) WHEELBASE 113.1 in LENGTH x WIDTH x HEIGHT 190.6 x 73.2 x 56.2 in 0-60 MPH 4.2 sec QUARTER MILE 12.8 sec @ 107.5 mph BRAKING, 60-0 MPH 115 ft LATERAL ACCELERATION 0.93 g (avg) MT FIGURE EIGHT 24.9 sec @ 0.76 g (avg) EPA CITY/HWY/COMB FUEL ECON 20/26/23 mpg ENERGY CONS, CITY/HWY 169/130 kW-hr/100 miles CO2 EMISSIONS, COMB 0.87 lb/mile

Congratulations to PorscheBoost Porsche Performance Forums member @Markblackwell whom regular readers should be familiar with. His Porsche 991.1 Turbo S has set records for some time now and he recently set the new VTG turbo 1/4 mile record. This a built motor car pushing over 800 horsepower to the wheels on a Mustang dyno. Yes, it's a beast. It's just short of 150 miles per hour in the 1/4: That 1.3X 60 foot is nothing to sneeze at either. Thank goodness the transmission is built by Dodson to handle that torque and launch! It's launching really well hitting 60 miles per hour in just 2.2 seconds: To the knowledge of PorscheBoost.com this is the quickest and fastest Porsche 911 with VTG turbochargers in the world topping the 9.478 @ 148.01 set by PorscheBoost member @8SecDD before he went to a non-VTG setup. Congratulations to those involved.

There is no official 'M7' model but the G11 M760i and G12 M760Li might as well be that. Under the hood is a 601 horsepower 6.6 liter twin turbo V12 known as the M74B66TU. The engine is a technical update to the 6.6 liter twin turbo V12 BMW utilizes in certain Rolls Royce models. Why nobody is tuning this monster V12 is anyone's guess. Rolls Royce owners probably do not even know they have a huge fire breathing BMW twin turbo V12 under the hood with a ton of untapped potential. PP-Performance was fortunately able to get their hands on an M760Li (long wheelbase) and did a dyno tune for the big V12. Here is the baseline: 629 PS at the crank so slightly underrated and 542 in wheel output on the notoriously conservative MAHA dyno. The engine is a powerhouse and a torque monster with 556 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. Peak power goes up by 86 to 715 PS and torque rises by 157 lb-ft at the wheels: That is just with a tune on pump gas. Just imagine if someone had the courage to modify the turbochargers. Is it an M5 killer? Not exactly as this is a larger and heavier all wheel drive luxury sedan but it sure would be interesting to see what it could do in the 1/4 mile. It would also be fun to see some of the M74B66 V12's under the hood of various Rolls Royce models get some tunes as well. Imagine a Wraith or Ghost running 10's...

You are going to see a bevy of McLaren parts from ASR and Kratos come to market soon. Pictured is a 650S carbon fiber prototype intake but the general design aspect carries over to the 570S intakes which are previewed in the video below. You can definitely hear the difference the intakes make. As for power, BoostAddict.com was told they make an appreciable difference of about 28 wheel horsepower. Yes, graphs confirming this are coming as the product nears its market launch. The production pieces will be in forged carbon and not the prepreg carbon fiber on the car.

The biggest development in BMW direct injection fuel system tuning is the upgraded HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) from Xtreme-DI. They have single and dual HPFP upgrades available depending on your setup and TTFS sells and provides software tuning for the pumps. This is a European F22 M235i put together by P-Connection. Here is the mod list: Cooling by Wagner Tuning Flasher by MHD Tuning Upgraded HPFP by Xtreme-DI by TuningTech FS Stage 2 Turbos by Pureturbos.eu Two disc clutch with steel EMS Here is the result: You can see 587 horsepower is crank output but they just cleared 500 whp with the Pure Turbo Stage 2 turbocharger on E30 with direct fuel injection only. No methanol, no port injection. The HPFP upgrade from Xtreme-DI sure seems like the real deal with successful applications across multiple platforms.

Very impressive results here from IE Engineering on this MKVII Golf R. They set the stock turbo pump gas (93 octane pump fuel) platform record for the MKVII Golf R and Audi S3 2.0 TFSI running a highly respectable 1/4 mile pass of 11.56 @ 118.24. Mid 11's from a stock turbo Golf? On pump gas no less? Mod list: -IE Stage 2 ECU software -IE TCU software -IE intake -IE intercooler -93 octane -Aftermarket catless downpipe -Aftermarket turbo inlet pipe -Front passenger and rear seats removed -7lbs custom catback exhaust -Konig Dekagram 18x8.5 wheels -Federal 200 tread wear 235/40r18 tires -Lowering springs Track conditions were good with DA at 200 feet in 56 degree weather. There is plenty more potential in the platform as well should the owner choose to go further but this is a great record to hold.

Mercedes-AMG has an absurd profit margin going here on the AMG GT 4-Door models. For one thing, these cars have absolutely nothing to do with an actual AMG GT 2-Door coupe other than the name. The only basic similarity is the motor but even then the 4-Door does not get the dry-sump M178 mill of the AMG GT S 2-Door. Despite AMG's name change fooling people this is essentially a new CLS63 which always shared the E-Class platform. The underpinnings are all from the E63 S. The same transmission, AMG 4Matic, chassis, etc. The only major area of difference is the AMG GT 63 S provides rear wheel steering. The drivetrain has nothing to do with the AMG GT S coupe and its dual clutch transmission and rear wheel drive layout. We are talking about a roughly $55k premium over the E63 S which starts at $104,400. For what? The car is gorgeous in person and performs very well but wow is AMG gouging customers. We will see if customers even care. *Prices excludes $995 destination and delivery charge.
