    • HyperCar Development will add a third turbocharger to your McLaren MP4-12C, 570S, or 650S M3838T engine for $42,900 to create a Hyper800

Over $40k to add a third turbocharger to a McLaren M838T twin turbo V8? That is what HyperCar Development offers. McLarenBoost.com first heard of the development of this Hyper800 package last year but now that the pricing is available it difficult to argue in favor of it.

First of all, a third turbocharger adds weight and complexity. When it comes at a $42,900 premium what is the point? A set of hybrid twin turbochargers is much cheaper and offers similar power and torque.

HyperCar Development states the Hyper800 package makes 711 horsepower to the wheels and will run 9.7 @ 147 in the 1/4 mile:

Where is the slip? Evoms provides proof of their hybrid package running 9.9 @ 140. It is easy to make big claims without proof which is what HyperCar Development is doing. It's a move reminiscent of Hennessey.

These guys do not have any independent dynographs or timeslips and are asking from $40k+ up to $129k+ for their unproven packages.

Very little substance is provided for those asking prices.

Nah. Let's just add on a fifth and sixth turbo.

To inflate the cost? I have no idea.

I mean, a twin turbo setup already adds enough complexity, this just looks a tuning nightmare. Could only imagine chasing down gremlins if something's not worth right. Also, this is a VERY interesting project to take up for an unestablished shop. Would be much more likely to trust EVOMS, AMS, or even Enzo before these guys.

There's a guy on McLarenLife that's looking to build an M838t Stroker and he keeps mentioning that he'll tune on the Motec M1. And Obsidian Motorsport Group previously mentioned (Oct 2016) on their FB that they were building a M1 engine harness for the MP4-12C.

Well with a Motec they will definitely be able to do it.

The only reason I can figure out for this tri-turbo setup is that they couldn't do a proper twin upgrade.

So let's just add so much piping you will need a plumber:

the whole "triple turbo" bull$#@! is just clickbait. There is no reason why it is needed. Just overly complicated.

Agreed...1/4 mile time in the 8s and 270mph topspeed claims are insanely ridiculous in a time where any serious shop gives you every detail under the sun outside of their bank account numbers.
